Name That Tune

Last night in the car, Adam and I were on the receiving end of a lovely serenade. I've done my best to render the words phonetically, a la Purple Kangaroo:

We-ah pumkin? We-ah pumkin?
Heah I'm am*. Heah I'm am.
Howa day, seh? Ve-wew, I fink.
Wun away. Wun away.

For those of you who aren't quite fluent in Threeyearold:

Where's pumpkin? Where's pumpkin?
Here I'm am*. Here I'm am.
How are day, sir? Very well, I think.
Run away. Run away.

And, just for reference, the real words:

Where is Thumbkin? Where is Thumbkin?
Here I am. Here I am.
How are you today, sir? Very well, I thank you.
Run away. Run away.

*This is actually a pretty recent corruption (or "grammatical improvement" if you want to get all technical about it) of her original rendering "I'm ahuw" (I'm are).

  1. Love it! My favorite Scooterism lately is How-a-loo-lah (hallelujah). And she's almost 5!

    Aren't they fun?

  2. I understood perfectly, of course, without the translation!

  3. That was easy to translate. I think your child and mine speak the same language!

I love it! Thank you for making me smile.

  4. That was too cute! It will be so much fun when my little guy is talking... although he is tons of fun now. :D

  5. How sweet. I love the way they talk at this age.

  6. Very cute. I can almost hear her little voice.

  7. How sweet, I love it. My son is three and his favorite candy he got in his Easter basket is "farties" (smarties).

  8. Too cute! I used to do a storytime for three year olds back when I was working as a librarian. I loved hearing their interpretations of our stories and songs. :)
